What You’ll Do

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned client accounts
  • Manage core HR tasks, including onboarding, offboarding, compliance updates, and policy support
  • Process payroll for clients using platforms such as Gusto, Rippling, or other HRIS systems
  • Troubleshoot payroll issues, tax updates, and time-tracking discrepancies
  • Support benefit enrollments, open enrollment tasks, and carrier changes
  • Maintain accurate employee data and ensure compliance with federal and state laws
  • Create HR documents such as offer letters, handbook updates, and SOPs
  • Provide guidance on employee relations, performance issues, and best practices
  • Recommend and implement tech-based efficiencies to streamline HR workflows
  • Collaborate with the HR Nerd team to improve processes and enhance the client experience

What We’re Looking For

  • Required: 3+ years of hands-on HR and payroll experience
  • Strong understanding of multi-state compliance basics
  • Confident using HR technology and learning new platforms quickly
  • Comfortable working with multiple businesses and shifting priorities
  • Excellent communication and client service skills
  • Experience with systems like Gusto, Rippling, ADP, or similar
  • Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality
  • Strong attention to detail and solid organizational skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience supporting small businesses (5–100 employees)
  • FPC/PHR/SHRM-CP certification
  • Previous consulting or fractional HR experience

  • Contract, part-time hours with room to grow
